One of the area's most famous residents was journalist and author Betty Friedan, who wrote "The Feminine Mystique" while living in Yorkville. In the world of entertainment, comedian and actor Jerry Seinfeld grew up in the neighborhood and attended nearby schools. Additionally, actress and singer Liza Minnelli was born and raised in Yorkville and got her start performing in local cabarets. These well-known figures and others have helped to shape the culture and history of Yorkville, making it a vibrant and dynamic neighborhood.
